Psalms 64:1
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
This verse doesn't says, "preserve my life from the enemy." No, it says, "preserve my life from fear of the enemy."
Isn't that interesting?
Fear is often worse than the threat.
>Fear will keep us from obeying Christ.<
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Had Peter and the other apostles feared what man could do unto them they would have obeyed men rather than God.
Luke 12:4
And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
The apostles were not governed by fear, therefore, they were able to make the right choice: to obey God rather than men.
Psalms 118:6
The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
When you live in obedience to God you know the LORD is on your side. And, when the LORD is on your side, you can say, "what can man do unto me?"
Fear has no place.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
In fact, fear is a lack of faith.
What are you afraid of?
Are you afraid of your financial situation?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of illness?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of death?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of censorship, the government, the media?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of storms?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of failure?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Are you afraid of pain?
Trust God. He will take care of you.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
To please God you must have faith.
>Fear is a failure to have faith.<
How many times does the Bible command, "Fear not," "Be not afraid," "Have no fear," or any variant of that phrase?
By my reckoning, at least 120 times!
There is someone that we are commanded to fear, and that someone is God himself.
1 Peter 2:17
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
The fear of God will actually keep you from sin.
Exodus 20:20
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
Take a look at the testimony of the Hebrew midwives.
Exodus 1:17
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
They feared God. That is what the Bible says. They feared God and that caused them to do what was right in His sight.
When we fear God we won't be afraid of other things. If we fear God, we are going to obey Him. He commands us to not be afraid of anything beside Himself.
Deuteronomy 13:4
Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
If we fear God, we will believe Him. He says He will take care of us. We must believe that He will take care of us.
Deuteronomy 31:8
And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
Again, take a look at the testimony of the Hebrew midwives.
Exodus 1:21
And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
Do you see how God took care of them? God provided houses for the midwives. They had a safe dwelling because they were not afraid of the king.
God is able to take care of our needs, both physical and spiritual.
What can possibly cause us to fear? It is when we take our eyes off the LORD that we become afraid.
Matthew 14:30
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
"Dear Lord,
Save us from fear.
Help us trust and obey you.
Amen."
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Beautiful and so helpful.
