What Is Different Is Not The Same: 002

Matthew 5:22

KVJ
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

NIV
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

ESV
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

  NRSV
But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire.

Do you see what is missing?

That is something else to see these verses compared side by side. I've known of course that there are lots of changes and things completely cut out of the different versions, but to see that each one has had the same thing purposely removed is quite an eye-opener!

Thank you for your comment, Sunshine Country. Some people will say that I am being nit picky, but the words that have been ommited, "without a cause," change the meaning of the passage. They cannot all be God's word if they are not saying the same thing.

This is an interesting point. I have read this verse in the 1977 Reina Valera translation of the Bible in Spanish (said to be the most accurate) and the "without cause" does not appear, whereas in the latest Catalan version, which my brother-in-law translated, it does. I will check with Italian, Derby, Portuguese, French, etc. translations to see what they say.

Certainly not being 'nit picky' as you mentioned. There are some very serious mistakes in the English translations of the Word and we feel these things should not be overlooked.

Missing? Or added? Just something to think about...

I see some people are questioning whether or not "without cause" maybe should not have been "added" according to their interpretation.

Compare scripture with scripture.
Psalms 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
1 Kings 11:9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Clearly, if the other translations are correct then it is wicked to ever be angry at all. Then we have not only a contradiction of scripture, we have God being a sinner! The KJV is consistent with the other verses - there is a time to be angry in righteousness; it is being angry without cause that is the problem.
