My "tissue" rag basket has been needing attention for quite some time. We have used cloths in place of paper kleenex for several years. Most of our tissue cloths were literally rags, pieces of old cut up shirts. When I read Lessons From Madame Chic by Laura Scott earlier this year I was "convicted" of the condition of my kleenex rags. (She talks of always being presentable and using nice things everyday instead of saving them for a special occasion.)
This week I was cutting out and serging a bunch of nice flannel tissues for other people. As I was looking through my flannel stash I came across this lightweight plaid. I decided that I should put effort into something nice for my own family.
I made a stack of 20 new flannel tissues for us.

You can see most of the old rags were badly stained. They are headed out to the shop to be used as grease rags now.
It feels really good to put some care towards making something nice for my own family. Do you know what I mean? Are there special things you do for your family to show your love and care? I am sure there are more than you can list. As a stay-at-home wife isn't that practically the definition of the job? Sometimes I get into a routine and do chores out of habit instead of love. My work is so much more rewarding, though, when I do it out of love. Love for the Lord and love for my family.

I really like your new flannel cloths. :) I still have a lot of leftover ones I made that never did sell. You've inspired me to go ahead and pull some of them out and let everyone use them. No sense in letting them set somewhere not being used! I actually just ordered some birdseye cloth to make us some cloths for using as replacements for paper towels. We go through so many paper towels around here, and when I seen the price of a package recently...it made me think it might be a good idea to try making some. I didn't care for the flannel as paper towel replacement, since I found them to be a bit resistant to absorbing water quickly, even though they work great as tissues. The birdseye cloth was my favorite for that sort of thing! Thank you for sharing this post and the Scripture verse, it was good for me to read, too. :)

Those are cute! I should do the same. I've actually been sewing a little more often lately...and I'm actually beginning to enjoy it! :) I sewed some curtains for the kitchen, and although they didn't turn out perfectly, it's a start. I think I'll just keep practicing. A dress is on my list next, so I'll definitely check out the website you mentioned in your previous post. Thanks!
Thank you for the comment, Joyful Heart! That's exciting that you have been able to do some sewing! You can buy some flannel sheets or pillowcases at a thrift store to make cheap "kleenxes". That is how I started off making flannel kleenxes. I was very happy with those cloths. They lasted a while, too.
