Selling My Hair Again

Here's an unusual way to make a few dollars.

I grow my hair out really long and then cut it once every few years and sell the growth.

When I first started doing this I could wait 3 years between hair cuts. As I have gotten older my rate of growth has started to slow. My hair is thinner than it used to be, too.
(There are other factors besides age, though; diet, hormones, multiple pregnancies, treating my hair a little rough,...)
Honestly, my hair growth has not slacked off that drastically. I used to get 6 inches in a year and now I get 5 inches in a year.

June was the month I wanted to cut my hair.
The buyer who bought the last hair that I sold commented that he would be interested in buying again. I told him that it was going to be 4 years before I cut my hair again, but I would let him know when the time came.
Having saved his shipping address from 2019, I wrote him a letter and told him my asking price and that I had some pictures and videos of my hair that I could share via email in order that he could see the product.
He was happy that I had remembered to contact him and he said he would buy my hair again.
Score for me! $150 without having to pay any ebay fees.

Ways to get a high price for hair:

These factors can help your hair be the best quality possible and, therefore, fetch a premium price.
Keep your hair in good condition. I like to wear my hair in a bun all the time. Other protective styles include braids, French braids, French knot, Chignon bun, and Heidi braids to name a few.

Hair is weaker when it is wet. Waiting to brush and detangle your hair until it is dry can help you avoid unnecessary breakage.
Keep your hair away from heat. Curlers, straighteners, and blow-dryers can all weaken your hair.
Minimize the use of chemicals on your hair. Things like dyes, bleaches, and perms can negatively effect the strength and texture of your hair.
Take good care of your health. Nonsmokers and non-drinkers are able to get a higher price for their hair.

I hope these tips help, if you're interested in trying this with your hair.

Freckles!

I really want to make some freckled dolls, Anne-of-Green-Gables-esque.

I purchased a permanent fabric marker with a fine point tip.

I have these five doll bodies finished. (HERE is my pattern.) I can't wait until the legs and hair are sewn on to try this marker.

I may regret this, but here goes......

I'll test it on the back of a doll's head first. If it turns out terribly wrong the hair will cover my mistake and no one will be the wiser.

That went surprisingly well!

Let me finish a doll completely before I show you the face.

I got the legs sewn on while I was at the playground with the children.

This is how I cut the yarn for doll hair:
Wrap yarn around a thin book that is about 8 inches tall.

Keep wrapping yarn around the book until you have about 5 inches of yarn.

Snip the yarn in half with scissors at one of the open edges of the book.

I sewed the hair on and braided it. HERE is a doll hair tutorial with details.

What do you think?
I am happy with the freckles. I think the marker worked well!
The marker brand is Marvy made by Uchida of America Corp. If you need to make freckles, I would recommend their fine point fabric marker.

Doll Hair Tutorial With Yarn

Of course a Doll can't grow hair, but have you ever wondered how a Rag Doll goes from this..........

to this,.......?
In this blog post I will share how I give my Rag Dolls a full head of hair.
(IF you are interested in purchasing my Rag Dolls or my Rag Doll pattern visit QuietStandards on Etsy.)
Back to the tutorial.
The supplies are:
Thread
Needle
Thimble
A whole bunch of yarn strings cut to 12-14 inches long

Use a pencil to draw a line down the middle of the back of the doll's head.
Carry this line over to the front of the doll's head.
Take a strand of yarn and fold it in half.
Stitch the center of the piece of yarn to the doll's head, using the pencil line as a stitching guide.
Loop your thread around the center of the yarn.
Use your needle to stitch down into the doll head at the back side of the yarn and bring your needle up a few millimeters out in front of the yarn, setting up for the next piece of yarn.
And then loop the next stitch back over another piece of yarn and so on and so forth....
Keep going.
When you have stitched the last piece of yarn onto the doll's head, tie off the thread in an inconspicuous area of the head where the knot will not be visible once the hair is braided.

Tie the hair into ponytails using a length of thread or yarn.
Tack the ponytails to the sides of the doll's head with a couple stitches that go around the thread or yarn tying the ponytails and back through the fabric of the head.
Carefully braid the ponytails and tie off with thread or yarn.

Use scissors to trim the long ends, leaving as much tassel as you like.

Even up all the ends, making all the strands the same length.

And that concludes this tutorial. If you have any questions, please send me a message or leave a comment!

Renpure Cleansing Conditioner Review

I have been using Renpure Cleansing Conditioner for almost 5 years. I highly, highly recommend this hair cleansing product!

My Hair Information

My hair is slightly wavy, a little on the dry side, and pretty long. I keep my hair up in a bun most of the time. It is a maintenance free and protective hair style. My hair stays cleaner longer and I am able to grow it out longer and thicker at the ends by keeping it up in a bun.

My Cleaning Routine

Since using Renpure Cleansing Conditioner I feel the need to wash my hair less, and less, frequently.

Renpure Cleansing Conditioner doesn't leave my hair dry and slippery like regular shampoo. It makes my hair have a silky luster and leaves the natural body in my hair.

Since my natural oils are not getting stripped every time that I wash my hair my scalp doesn't go into over drive producing a boat load of oils. I think this is the reason I can go longer in between washes.

When I was first starting to use Renpure Cleansing Conditioner I washed my hair once or twice a week.

Gradually, I have stretched the length of time between washes to 1-3 weeks apart. I have even gone as long as 6 and 7 weeks between washes several times! (Shock and horror!)

About every 6 months I wash my hair with a real shampoo. I just use a random hotel sample shampoo for these rare washes.

Why This Post?

I just really love this product and wanted to spread the word about how great it is! If you are looking for a good shampoo and have a similar type hair to myself I recommend that you give Renpure Cleansing Conditioner a try! :)

Song of Solomon 4:1

Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.
