I was supposed to be showing you a completed sling bag. This is as far as I got on that sling bag. It is coming right along, but I had to put this project on hold because one of my sisters is going to have a special birthday and I wanted to give her a special present, worthy of such an occasion.
I made plans for her birthday present last September and cut out all the pieces for a dress, using this pattern. I love this pattern. I love this style of dress and the instructions. This makes the 5th dress that I have made using this pattern.Something I did differently this time was to cut my own bias strips and make homemade bias tape. I decided to use a contrasting print to give the inside of the dress a pretty little secret.
Another fancy thing that I did was finish all the seams with my homemade bias tape. You can see them in this picture of the dress turned inside out
I used some tiny hand stitches.
I tried the dress on just to show it modeled on my blog here.
I had to diet for two weeks to fit into the dress well. That is called blogging dedication!
I think this dress is going to look amazing on my sister. I already know that this cut looks good on her because I used this pattern to make her a dress years ago. I can't wait to give it to her!
The last project that I did this month was to repair a dress that I had made 13 or 14 years ago for my sister who was 12 or 13 at the time. I made a major mistake when I sewed all the seams with machine embroidery thread. All the seams in positions of stress split. It was kind of embarrassing. I am finally getting around to repairing this dress.
I re-sewed many of the seams that I could get to: sleeves, side bodice left and right, waist, skirt panels.
